The screenshots published in these days with the Edit button concern only the Desktop version. This option, however, could also extend to smartphones.

Turn on notifications to receive updates on

For now there is only a small trace. Not enough to talk about a ready-made new feature but enough to understand where the Meta developers are looking. In a screenshot published on the specialized site Wabetainfo, a new option of WhatsApp per edit messages already sent. With this button you could arrange messages by adding or removing texts and emojis. The screenshots published so far all come from the version of the messaging platform dedicated to desktop but this could be the first step to implement everything also on smartphones.

It has been a while since we talked about the possibility of editing messages on WhatsApp. Last May, more screenshots circulated in which it seemed that Meta was about to integrate this feature into the smartphone version. A modification of which, as we know, then the traces have been lost. Even earlier, in January 2017 the Beta of WhatsApp numbered 2.17.26 had among the options disabled by default the possibility to modify text messages. In all these cases, the Edit button is activated simply by holding down the message.

The parallel with Twitter

The long saga of the Edit button on WhatsApp it almost parallels that of Twitter. Since April 2022, news continues to come back that Twitter has started testing to edit tweets once they have been sent. The rumors were also confirmed by the same company that explained how this choice is the result of a work that lasted over a year. In a tweet published by the official channel of the Twitter communication team we read that the option to edit messages could be previewed to subscribers of Twitter Bluethe premium version of the platform.
