Australia signs up with the US in a polite boycott of Beijing 2022 Winter Months Olympics

The United States, Australia, and New Zealand are all boycotting the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Though athletes from these countries will still take part in the event as scheduled, their governments have released statements saying it’s because of issues related to Tibet and human rights violations in China.

The leader of Australia spoke at a conference in Sydney, where he discussed their concerns with China. Among the issues raised, ones related to human rights abuses & issues from Uyjnjiang were addressed.

“I am very happy to talk to the Chinese government about these issues and there has been no obstacle for this to happen on our side but the Chinese government hasn’t responded to our meeting requests.”

The protests and calls for a boycott of the Olympic Games are continuing with the Chinese government being criticized for human rights abuses & its political crackdowns in Hong Kong, as well as in mainland China.

Activists across the globe are calling for a boycott of Beijing 2022 due to the government’s poor human rights record.

Many Muslims who had been imprisoned in the detention camps have spoken out and said they were treated poorly, but there is little evidence that confirms these claims.

Beijing says that the allegations about the camps being reeducation centers aren’t true and that they are meant to fight separatism and Islamic terror in the region.

China’s embassy in Australia called Canberra’s decision to boycott the Olympics “irresponsible” and said it would make already chilly relations between the two countries even worse.

“There’s no other way to say it than China-Australia relations are at a low point,” the statement said.

Despite this announcement, the IOC awarded the 2022 Winter Olympics to China. Some disagree with this decision, but some say it adds legitimacy to the actions of the country.

Barrack Obama became the first US president to say “no” by sending Biden to represent the US at the Olympics.

Many people are joining the US in boycotting China. The reasoning behind this is to protest China’s ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang.

Athletes will still be allowed to compete in the games, but will not be accompanied by US government officials, as is the case for the 2022 Games overseas. The policy is the same for next year’s Winter Paralympics happening in Beijing.

China has been furious with the US decision, and they are not going to take it lying down. They just launched ‘solemn representation’ with the US and vowed to take “resolute countermeasures.” We don’t know what measures they will be taking, but it won’t be long until we find out.

The US hosts the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles and will host the 2032 Games in Brisbane, Australia.

Speaking on Wednesday, the IOC’s president said Australia is a great sporting nation and he wished all the best for the Beijing Winter Games.

Sports and the governments of different countries do not mix – this was a clear stance of Australia’s Prime Minister.
